Sakha-Korean School was founded on 1 August 1994 following the
specification from the city mayor of Yakutsk, A. Tomptosov.
The City Council represented by A. Tomptosov and city Education
Council represented by director E. Mikhailova emerged as the founders
of the school.
The aim is the co-operation of all involved in development of
educational programmes, cultural and academic co-operation between
Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and South Korea in order to provide
pupils with:
quality higher education
adequate preparation for further education in foreign languages (English, Korean)
opportunities for self-actualisation throughout the entire study process, which takes in account individual preferences and abilities.
The basis for initiating the school was the speech of the
President of Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) M. Nikolaev on the annual
conference of the Republic's school directors held in autumn 1993.
The President highlighted the role of teaching Eastern languages
in order to contribute to the development of links with Pacific
region countries. In addition, the Korean Association of Yakutsk
City placed a request to create a school where children of Korean
nationality would be able to study their native tongue and culture.
